In 2016, Whitgift will be hosting a major exhibition, to mark the Centenary of the First World War. There will be a particular focus on 1916, a pivotal year which saw a number of significant battles, including the Battle of the Somme, one of the most famous in British military history.

Remembering 1916 – Life on the Western Front will display a large number of superb exhibits, the great majority having never before been on exhibition to the public. There will also be a number of special presentations, including the world before the War, and the re-creation of an Edwardian room. The principal focus will be on trench warfare, the major battles at Verdun and the Somme, and the experiences of individual British, French and German soldiers.
