The Whitgift curriculum is innovative and constantly evolving, based upon the attainment of academic excellence, including traditional core subjects and an exciting breadth of choice. Whitgift is unique in offering such diverse pathways to qualifications, with examinations at GCSE, IGCSE, DELF B1/B2 (Institut Français), Zertifikatsprüfung B1 (Goethe Institut), DELE Intermedio (Instituto Cervantes), AS Level, A Level, International Baccalaureate and BTEC as well as STEP Papers.
A strong tradition of scholarship exists in humanities, sciences, mathematics, languages and other specialist areas with a choice of more than 25 subjects at A Level. Whitgift consistently features amongst the small group of top schools nationally, and achieves success in Mathematics and Science Olympiads as well as Arkwright Scholarships.
The provision in Languages is extraordinary; eight are featured – French, German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese and Mandarin Chinese, together with Latin and Greek – and three distinctive bilingual programmes.
Tailored programmes suit the needs of each student and the extensive work of the Learning Support Department ensures that the academic potential of individuals is fulfilled. The Learning Development Programme, allied to the Academic Extension Scheme, fosters a culture of independent learning.
The International Baccalaureate qualification is world-renowned, offering a rigorous and diverse programme of study. Special features include the Theory of Knowledge component and the opportunity for practical and community work to be accredited.
The vast majority of students progresses to top-flight universities within Britain and abroad, notably Oxford, Cambridge and Harvard.
