WIMC 2015 winner’s performance receives a standing ovation
Whitgift International Music Competition (2015) winner, Leo Appel gave a magnificent performance of Korngold’s Violin Concerto, on Saturday 23 January, at St Andrews Church, Oxford. He was supported by the St. Giles Orchestra, under the masterful direction of Old Whitgiftian, Geoff Bushell.

Leo Appel gave a magnificent performance of Korngold’s Violin Concerto, on Saturday 23 January, at St Andrews Church, Oxford. He was supported by the St. Giles Orchestra, under the masterful direction of Old Whitgiftian, Geoff Bushell.
With his natural affinity for combining the beauty of Korngold’s melodic lines with a range of subtle musical colours, Leo brought the audience to their feet, in appreciation of his unique and moving rendition.
With the inspirational David Takeno on board as his teacher and mentor, together with support from his family and a loyal following of musical supporters, Leo stands every chance of building a successful career as a professional musician.
Whitgift’s steadfast support of this talented young musician was confirmed by the presence of Mr Michael Proudfoot (Whitgift School Governor and Old Whitgiftian), Mr Stuart Dryden (Old Whitgiftian) and Mrs Rosanna Whitfield – Whitgift’s Director of Music.
