Whitgift’s book of the week is The Unknown Soldier, and to celebrate World Book Day 2016, we shall be joined by the author, Neil Hanson, on Thursday 3 March 2015.  He will be giving a talk to Third Form students in the Concert Hall at 8.35am, followed by workshops throughout the day in the Raeburn Library.

The Unknown Soldier draws largely on unpublished letters and diaries from World War One, and Neil Hanson has resurrected the lives and experiences of three unknown soldiers – a Briton, a German and an American.  The book choice ties in with Remembering 1916 – Life on the Western Front, which launches on Saturday 12 March, and also explores individual personal stories and accompanying artefacts.

Previous authors that have visited us for World Book Day include: G.P. Taylor in 2013, Marcus Alexander in 2014 and Bali Rai in 2015.
